the Chinese bicycle market

China – the largest traditional bicycle market in the world.
Between 60 and 70 million bicycles are being produced per year by 1,200 producers. Approximately 70% are being exported. Largest turnover in China still is made with traditional street bikes. But for about five years the E-bike share increased continuously.

Approximately 1,200 registered cycling clubs are listed in China as well as 300 bicycle websites. Millions of serious cyclists visit the yearly cycling events in their country.

In recent years the bicycle still was the main means of transportation for the populace. With the prosperity of cars and scooters, bicycles made a leap forward to a leisure and lifestyle product in China too. The rising trend exercise and fitness expanded the market for sports bikes dramatically. Producers and wholesalers report a 30% growth in turnover per year.

Especially mountain bikes and race bikes are on the advance. In the meantime increase rates reached the figures of the outdoor markets. And it was just a matter of time for China to present the first trade fair in this sector. This first “asia bike” fair will take place in Nanjing parallel to the 6th “Asia Outdoor” in July 2011 with mountain bikes, sports and luxury bikes, cycling clothing and accessories on offer.

A new five year plan favours bicycle
On October 18, 2010 the Central Comittee of the Chinese Government sanctioned the new five year plan which envisions the strengthening of the domestic demand. The new growth should mainly take place in the rural areas and smaller cities in order to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.

Besides, China no longer wants to be the low wage country but intends to advance to a high technology location. The result thereof will be rising income for even more people. Additional demand on high quality lifestyle and sporting products will increase accordingly thus the best possible condition to become an exhibitor at the „Asia Outdoor“ and the „asia bike“.

double success: 1 st asia bike and 6 th Asia Outdoor

The concurrent Asia Outdoor has developed into China’s leading outdoor fair in 2010, attracted 16,326 visitors and 359 exhibitors on 32,000 m² exhibition space. 355 Journalist and 14 TV stations reported from the fair.

Outdoor and bike a perfect symbiosis. One ticket, two fairs is the m. otto of “asia bike”.
The aim of the organizers is to exploit the great synergies generated by outdoor activities and sports bikes (especially mountain bikes). In China, many outdoor dealers already sell mountain or trekking bikes together with the-associated fashions and accessories.

But also many bike dealers sell outdoor products like rucksacks, tents and others. Thus, the combination of these two fairs promises a variety of extremely interesting cross-over effects.

For 2011, the organizers are planning an area of 36,000 to 38,000 m² for “Asia Outdoor” and approximately 12,000 m² for “asia bike”.

the highlights of “asia bike”

In a special exhibition (show in the show) “asia bike” presents luxury and unique sports bicycle from all over the world.

The second highlight: show us the trend in the European and the US market. Mountain bike and sports- bike with E-power support, is at present a small business in China, but with a great future.“asia bike” will be the perfect platform and marketing tool for this new market. For test purposes the latest products from the market “asia bike” offers an indoor and outdoor test area.
